Simparica Trio Information
Simparica Trio (Pyrantel/Sarolaner/Moxidectin) is used to prevent heartworm and treat demodicosis. The drug is also used to treat and control intestinal nematodes. Simparica Trio may also be used to prevent and treat fleas and to treat and control ticks. Dogs with sarcoptic mange may also benefit from Simparica Trio. Simparica Trio is a combination medicine containing Pyrantel, Sarolaner, and Moxidectin. Nematocides like Pyrantel work by paralyzing and killing or expelling the parasite. Isoxazoline insecticides like Sarolaner work by causing uncontrolled neuromuscular activity in insects, leading to their death. Endectocides like Moxidectin work by causing paralysis and death of the parasite.
Simparica Trio Side Effects
The most common side effects of Simparica Trio may include diarrhea and vomiting. Call your veterinarian right away if your dog has any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of neurologic adverse reactions, such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures
Simparica Trio Precautions
Do not administer Simparica Trio to your dog if it is allergic to Pyrantel, Sarolaner, Moxidectin, or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your dog’s medical history, including if it has a history of seizures, is lactating, is breeding, or is pregnant. Tell your veterinarian about all your pet’s medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Simparica Trio and other medications. Do not administer Simparica Trio if your dog is pregnant or breeding. The safety and effectiveness of Simparica Trio in breeding or pregnant dogs have not been established. Do not use Simparica Trio for a lactating dog without talking to your veterinarian. It is unknown if Pyrantel, Sarolaner, or Moxidectin pass into milk or if they may harm a nursing puppy. Do not use this drug or administer it to cats. It is for dogs only.
Administer this medicine exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Simparica Trio comes as chewable tablets. You can administer the drug by hand, in food, or like other tablet medications. Simparica Trio can be offered to the dog with or without food. Ensure that your dog consumes the complete dose. Observe your treated dog for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused. If a dose is missed, administer it again and resume a monthly dosing schedule. Administer Simparica at monthly intervals. You can begin treatment with Simparica at any time of the year. Before administering Simparica Trio, your dog should be tested for existing heartworm infections. Infected dogs should be treated with an adulticide to remove adult heartworms. Simparica is not effective against adult heartworms. Store Simparica Trio at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children and pets.
