Estradot (Estradiol-17B) is a prescription medication used for the short-term relief of symptoms of the menopause such as abnormal uterine bleeding, hot flushes, sweating and chills. This medication belongs to a class of medications known as hormone replacement therapy. When an estradiol patch is applied to your skin, it releases estradiol into your blood through the skin reducing the symptoms of menopause. Estradot patches are a continuous, oestrogen-only form of HRT. They release estradiol through the skin into the bloodstream at a constant rate and are designed to be changed twice a week, i.e. a patch is worn for three to four days and then replaced with a new one. Women who have not had a hysterectomy (removal of their uterus or womb) must also take another female hormone called progestin while they are taking this medication to prevent complications associated with taking estrogen alone.
