Altace HCTZ (Generic name: Ramipril and Hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Altace HCTZ contains two active ingredients: Ramipril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Ramipril is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by relaxing blood vessels and by making the heart pump more efficiently. Hydrochlorothiazide is known as diuretics or “water pills” and helps control blood pressure by getting rid of excess salt and water. Take Altace HCT exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Altace HCTZ side effects are abdominal pain, constipation, cough, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, fainting, fever, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, nervousness, numbness, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT take Altace HCTZ oral if you are allergic to Ramipril, Hydrochlorothiazide or any of the ingredients in Altace HCT medication. Before taking Altace HCTZ, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as blood vessel disease, heart problems, high blood levels of potassium, liver or kidney disease, severe dehydration, strokes, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or heart rate, especially of: lithium, NSAIDs, oral diabetes/insulin, potassium supplements, salt substitutes or diuretics, and other blood pressure-lowering medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
