Dilantin (Generic name: Phenytoin Sodium) is an anti-seizure medication used for the management and prevention of certain types of seizures. Dilantin may also be used to prevent and treat seizures that occur during or following neurosurgery (surgery of the brain and spinal cord). Phenytoin is an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing abnormal nerve impulses in the brain that cause seizures. Dilantin is sometimes used together with other seizure medications. Take Dilantin exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Dilantin side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, joint pain, nausea, tremor, and vomiting.
