Oralair (Generic name: Grass Pollen Allergen Extract) is used for the treatment of symptoms of seasonal pollen allergic rhinitis with or without conjunctivitis. Seasonal allergic rhinitis, often called “hay fever”, is characterized by sneezing, runny or itchy nose, nasal congestion and itchy watery eyes. Grass pollen is one of the causes of seasonal allergic rhinitis. Oralair is a sublingual tablet composed of 5 different grass pollen allergens that helps to make you less sensitive to the pollens you are allergic to. These 5 grasses are: cocksfoot, sweet vernal grass, rye grass, meadow grass, and timothy. Oralair reduces symptoms associated with exposure to certain kinds of grass pollen. Take Oralair exactly as it was prescribed for you. Brand Oralair is manufactured by Paladin Laboratories Inc. in Canada. It comes in two strengths: 100 IR or 300 IR of grass pollen allergen extract.
The first tablet of Oralair should be taken at your doctor’s office. Your doctor will also ask you to stay for 30 minutes to monitor you for possible side effects. The most common side effects are including itching (in the mouth, eyes, ears), irritation of the throat, runny nose, blocked nose, sneezing, and cough. You may experience mild to moderate local allergic reactions such as swelling or discomfort in the mouth during treatment, or stronger allergic reactions such as difficult swelling or breathing and voice changes. Do not take it if you are allergic to any other ingredients in Oralair medication. It is recommenced to take Oralair tablet in the morning on an empty stomach.
