Prezista (Generic name: Darunavir) is a once-daily HIV medication used to treat HIV infection. Darunavir belongs to a class of drugs called protease inhibitor (PI). It works by blocking an enzyme called protease which the virus needs to multiply and reducing the amount of virus in your body. Prezista does not cure HIV infection or AIDS. Prezista should be used with Norvir (ritonavir) and in combination with other HIV drugs. Take Prezista exactly as it was prescribed for you. Brand Prezista is manufactured by Janssen-Ortho in Canada or Turkey, available in 75 mg, 300 mg, 400mg, and 600 mg. Generic Darunavir is made in India, available in 300 mg.
The most common Prezista side effects are abdominal pain, bleeding, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, gas, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and weakness. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as back pain, fever, signs of new infections, and serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, rash, swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
