Zebeta (Bisoprolol) is a beta-blocker commonly used to treat heart conditions, including high blood pressure, chest pain from not enough blood flow to the heart, and heart failure. Zebeta works by blocking the beta-1 adrenoceptors, which lowers the heart rate, blood pressure and strain on the heart. When beta-1 receptors are activated by adrenergic neurotransmitters such as epinephrine, blood pressure and heart rate increase. This increase leads to more cardiovascular work, which can cause strain on the heart and surrounding organs. Zebeta blocks these neurotransmitters, decreasing stimulation and tension on the heart muscle, allowing the heart to function easier. Do not skip doses or stop taking Zebeta without talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse or cause other serious heart problems. Keep taking Zebeta, even if you feel your symptoms have subsided. You should not use Zebeta if you have a serious heart condition such as AV block, severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that have caused fainting.
Common side effects of Zebeta include headache, drowsiness, insomnia, joint pain, swelling, or sold symptoms. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Minimize drinking alcohol, as it can increase some of the common side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience shortness or breath, rapid weight gain, slow heart rate, irregular heartbeats, numbing or tingling in your hands or feet, light-headedness, eye pain or vision problems, or wheezing, chest tightness, and trouble breathing. If you experience any serious side effects or symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
