Actos Information
Actos (Generic name: Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is an oral anti-diabetic medication used to lower the blood sugar associated with type 2 diabetes. Pioglitazone hydrochloride works by helping to restore your body's proper response to insulin, thereby lowering your blood sugar. Actos is taken orally once daily as an adjunct to diet and exercise, and is approved for use for type 2 diabetes as monotherapy to lower blood glucose and in combination therapy with insulin, sulfonylureas or metformin. Take Actos exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Actos Side Effects
The most common Actos side effects are headache, sneezing, running nose, gradual weight gain, muscle pain or tooth problems. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, nausea, stomach pain, sweating, shortness of breathing, increased thirst or hunger, urinating more than usual, please inform your doctor immediately.
Actos Precautions
Do NOT use Actos if you have type 1 diabetes, or if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. Do NOT take Actos if you are allergic to Pioglitazone or any of the ingredients in Actos medication. Before taking Actos oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as heart failure, low blood sugar or liver disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions or over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Actos drug, especially of: anti-diabetes medications, birth control pills, corticosteroids, diuretics and ketoconazole. To be sure Actos medicine is helping your condition; your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your liver function may also need to be tested, and you may need regular eye exams. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
