Aerius Information
Aerius (Desloratadine) is used for symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, stuffiness, itchy, tearing and redness of the eyes, itchy palate, itchy ears, itchy throat, and allergic cough. Aerius also effectively relieves allergic skin conditions, such as skin itch and urticaria. The active ingredient in Aerius is Desloratadine. An antihistamine such as Desloratadine works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.
Aerius Side Effects
The most common side effects of Aerius medication may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, fatigue, increased appetite, tiredness, muscle pain, and headache. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Sudden onset of movement disorder such as tics and dystonia;
• Symptoms of allergic reaction such as rash, itching, swelling of lips, tongue, face, throat and trouble breathing;
• Seizure;
• Worsening of your condition
Aerius Precautions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, loratadine, or any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have diabetes mellitus, seizure or family history of seizures, kidney problems, liver disease, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Aerius and other medications, such as thalidomide. During pregnancy, Aerius medicine should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Aerius passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Aerius is a tablet that should be taken orally with or without food. This medicine provides symptomatic relief for 24 hours. It is usually taken once daily. It would be best to follow your doctor’s prescription carefully and not take more than one tablet. If you use the rapidly-dissolving tablet, allow the tablet to dissolve on the tongue and then swallow, with or without water. Do not remove the tablet from the blister pack until right before using. If you are using the liquid form of this medication, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. The dosage is based on age, medical condition, and response to treatment. Desloratadine does not usually cause drowsiness when used at recommended doses. However, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can safely perform such activities. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. This medication is at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children.
