Bumex Information

Bumex (Bumetanide) is used to reduce fluid retention. Fluid retention or edema may be caused by congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease. Diuretics like Bumetanide work by increasing how much you pee to help your kidneys eliminate electrolytes like sodium from the body.

Bumex Side Effects

The most common side effects of Bumex may include dizziness, headache, and upset stomach. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Changes in hearing;
• Chest pain or pressure;
• Severe dizziness;
• Shortness of breath;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Swelling, warmth, or numbness in arm or leg

Bumex Precautions

Do not use Bumex if you are allergic to Bumetanide or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have abnormal heart rhythm, diabetes, electrolyte imbalance, gout, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, kidney disease, liver disease, problems passing urine, sulfa allergy, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Bumex and other medications, such as indomethacin, probenecid, lithium, digoxin, etc. Do not use Bumex if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Bumetanide will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Bumex while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Bumetanide passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Bumex comes in tablets. Take this drug by mouth. Bumex may cause dizziness. Avoid driving or doing other tasks that require alertness until you know how the drug affects you. Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to lower your chances of dizziness. Bumex may cause you to pass urine more often. Do not take this drug too close to bedtime to avoid sleep problems. Keep using Bumex even if you feel well. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol may increase your risk of side effects. Store Bumex at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
