Cerazette Information
Cerazette (Desogestral) is a contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. Desogestral belongs to a class of medications known as progestogens. Cerazette is a type of pill called mini-pill or progestogen-only pill. It only contains one hormone-desogestrel - and doesn't contain oestrogen. This medication contains a small amount of a synthetic progestogen which is similar to the natural progestogens produced by the body. This medication works by stopping the ovaries from releasing an egg each month (ovulation). It also increases the thickness of the natural mucus at the neck of the womb, making it more difficult for the sperm to cross from the vagina into the womb. It also thins the womb lining, which makes it more difficult for any successfully fertilised eggs to implant there.
Cerazette Side Effects
The most common side effects of Cerazette are changes to your period, such as irregular bleeding or your period stopping. Taking this medication may cause some side effects such as mood change, reduced sex drive, headache, feeling sick, acne, breast tenderness and weight gain. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the serious side effects such as vomiting, vaginal infection, hair loss, cysts on the ovaries and fatigue.
Cerazette Precautions
Do not take this medication if you are allergic. Contact your doctor if you have a medical history of abnormal vaginal bleeding, breast cancer or a history of breast cancer, liver cancer or severe liver cirrhosis, serious arterial disease and or rare metabolic disorders called acute porphyria’s. Cerazette is 99 % effective when taken correcly, but missing pills, vomiting, diarrhea and taking certain other medications can make it less effective. Cerazette won't protect you against sexually transmitted infections; you will still need to use condoms for that.
