Cingal Information
Cingal (Sodium Hyaluronate/Triamcinolone Hexacetonide) is used to provide pain relief for people with osteoarthritis knee pain. Stiffness and pain are common symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. It may affect one knee or both. Age, obesity, genetics, occupation, diet, and injuries are risk factors for osteoarthritis of the knee. Viscosupplementation agents like Sodium Hyaluronate provide long-term pain relief in the knee joint by acting as a lubricant and shock absorber. Corticosteroids like Triamcinolone Hexacetonide work by reducing inflammation and swelling in the knee joint for short-term pain relief.
Cingal Side Effects
The most common side effects of Cingal may include mild pain; temporary swelling; bruising at injection site; heat; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Color changes at the injection site;
• Difficulty moving;
• Muscle pain or stiffness;
• Signs of an infection such as fever, increased redness, and swelling at the injection site;
• Thinner skin
Cingal Precautions
Do not use Cingal if you are allergic to Sodium Hyaluronate, Triamcinolone Hexacetonide or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have allergies; have infections at the site where the injection is to be given; have kidney problems; have impaired cardio-renal function; have a disease where the use of corticosteroid is warned; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cingal and other medications, like disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts for skin preparation;. Do not use Cingal if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. Do not use Cingal while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown whether Sodium Hyaluronate or Triamcinolone Hexacetonide passes into your breastmilk or if they may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children. It may harm them. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Cingal injection should be administered by a health care professional into your knee joint. Do not strain your knee joint for at least 2 days after receiving the injection. Avoid activities such as heavy lifting, jogging, tennis, or standing on your feet for a long time. You may experience temporary pain and swelling at the injection site for 2 to 4 days after receiving the injection. You can apply ice to the swollen region for the first 24 hours. Wrap the ice in a cloth and apply to the swollen region for 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off to decrease pain. You may use heat after 24 hours. Store Cingal in its original package at room temperature. Do not freeze.
