Cleocin T Information

Cleocin T (Clindamycin Phosphate) is used to treat severe acne in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Severe acne is a form of acne characterized by many painful, inflamed, deep lesions like cysts and nodules, often covering a wide area of the skin and potentially leading to significant scarring. Lincomycin antibiotics like Clindamycin Phosphate work by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics like Clindamycin Phosphate will not work for flu, colds, and other viral infections.

Cleocin T Side Effects

The most common side effects of Cleocin T may include oily skin and burning, itching, redness, or peeling of treated skin. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Severe redness or itching of treated skin areas;
• Severe stomach pain;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Cleocin T Precautions

Do not use Cleocin T if you are allergic to Clindamycin Phosphate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have eczema, chronic asthma, intestinal disorder, ulcerative colitis, inflammation of your intestines, severe diarrhea caused by antibiotics, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cleocin T and other medications, such as erythromycin, other topical medications, etc. Do not use Cleocin T if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Clindamycin Phosphate will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Cleocin T while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Clindamycin Phosphate passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. If you apply Cleocin T lotion on your chest, avoid areas that may come in contact with the baby’s mouth. Tell your doctor if you notice diaper rash, diarrhea, or signs of stomach pain in the nursing baby. Do not give this drug to children below 12 years without talking to your doctor. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Cleocin T comes as cream, gel, and lotion.

Use this medication on the skin only. Avoid contact with the mouth, eyes, nose, or areas of broken skin. Rinse with water if the medicine accidentally gets into these areas. Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine. Clean and dry the affected area first. If you use the lotion, shake the bottle well before using it. Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area as your doctor directs, usually twice a day. Do not use Cleocin T on open wounds or sunburned, windburned, or irritated skin. It may take 2 to 6 weeks to notice an improvement in your condition and up to 12 weeks to see the full benefit. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse. Do not use other medicated skin products unless your doctor has told you to. Avoid using skin products that irritate, such as harsh soaps, shampoos, skin cleansers, hair coloring or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime. Store Cleocin T at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
