Clopixol Information

Clopixol (Zuclopenthixol) is used to treat acute and long-term schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental condition that affects your ability to think and behave. The drug is also used to treat psychoses. This illness makes it difficult for you to differentiate between reality and imagination. Antipsychotics like Zuclopenthixol act on the nerve pathways in specific areas of the brain to help correct certain chemical imbalances that are causing the symptoms of your illness.

Clopixol Side Effects

The most common side effects of Clopixol may include constipation, headache, blurred vision, dry mouth, and weight gain. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, such as:
• Changes in consciousness;
• Fast heartbeats;
• High fever;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, or itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Unusual movement of the mouth and tongue

Clopixol Precautions

Do not use Clopixol if you are allergic to Zuclopenthixol or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have severe breathing problems; have Parkinson’s disease have epilepsy; have liver, kidney, or thyroid problems; have diabetes; have a family history of blood clots; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Clopixol and other medications, like quinidine, piperazine, digoxin, prednisolone, methyldopa, and warfarin. Do not use Clopixol if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. Taking Zuclopenthixol, especially in your third trimester, can cause side effects like breathing problems, muscle stiffness, and sleepiness in your newborn baby. Do not use Clopixol while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Zuclopenthixol passes into your breastmilk in small amounts, and it may harm nursing infants. It is unknown if this drug is safe for use in children below 18 years of age. This drug may decrease your sexual activity and fertility. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Clopixol is available as an injection and tablet. Your doctor will administer the injection to your buttock or thigh muscle. Swallow Clopixol tablets whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. You can take the drug before or after food. Take your drug at the same time each day to help you remember. Do not stop taking this drug without talking to your doctor. Clopixol helps to control your condition, but it is not a cure. This drug can increase your sensitivity to the sun. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen of at least SPF30 when outdoors. Avoid taking alcohol when using Clopixol. Alcohol may make you drowsier. Do not drive or use machinery when taking this drug. Clopixol can make you sleepy and blur your vision. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
