Combivent Respimat
Combivent Respimat (Ipratropim/Albuterol) is an inhalant medication used to prevent bronchospasm attacks in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Combivent contains two medications, Albuterol and Ipratropium. Albuterol works by stimulating the adrenergic receptors in the airways, which are greatly responsible for relaxing the muscles. Ipratropium works by inhibiting certain reflexes that can lead to contraction of the muscles in the airways. These two medications, in combination, help clear the airways and improve respiratory function. Combivent is not a rescue medication. If you are having a bronchospasm attack, use the appropriate medication. To make sure Combivent is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had heart disease, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes, thyroid disease, glaucoma, liver or kidney disease, an enlarged prostate, or problems with urination. It is not known if Combivent will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant. Combivent can pass into breastmilk. Talk to your doctor about any risks if you are breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions. If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
