Cyclessa Information
Cyclessa (Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel) is used to prevent pregnancy. The contraceptive also helps to make periods more regular, reduces painful periods, and decreases blood loss. Birth control pills do not protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and gonorrhea. Estrogens like Ethinyl Estradiol decrease the production of the luteinizing hormone to prevent ovulation. Progestins like Desogestrel thicken the mucus in the cervix to stop sperm from reaching an egg.
Cyclessa Side Effects
The most common side effects of Cyclessa may include nausea; breast tenderness; swelling of the feet and ankles; headache; weight changes; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:

• Severe abdominal pain;

Cyclessa Precautions
Do not use Cyclessa if you are allergic to Ethinyl Estradiol, Desogestrel, or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have allergies; have a history of blood clots; have high blood pressure; have high cholesterol; have depression; have gallbladder problems; have severe headaches; have kidney disease; have unexplained vaginal bleeding; have thyroid problems; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cyclessa and other medications, like anastrozole; ospemifene; tizanidine; ritonavir; rifampin; St. John’s wort;. Do not use Cyclessa if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. This medication should not be used in pregnancy as it can harm an unborn baby. If you have recently given birth, had an abortion or a pregnancy loss within 3 months, ask your doctor if it is safe to use this birth control pill. Do not use Cyclessa while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel pass into your breastmilk and may harm nursing infants. The medication may also decrease breast milk production. This drug is not safe for use in children who have not had their first menstrual periods. It may harm them. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication by mouth, once daily. It is best to take it at the same time each day to help you remember. Always take the medication in the correct order and do not skip any doses. You are likely to become pregnant if you miss your pills or take them late. If you vomit while using Cyclessa, use a backup birth control method. Avoid smoking when using this drug. Smoking can increase your risk of side effects. You may experience blotching or dark areas on your face and skin due to this drug. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Store Cyclessa at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Do not store it in a bathroom.
