Cyclogyl Information
Cyclogyl (Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride) is used to relax the muscles in the eyes and cause dilation. This drug is used in preparation for an eye exam. The active ingredient in Cyclogyl is Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride. Anticholinergics like Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride work by relaxing the eye muscles to dilate the pupils temporarily.
Cyclogyl Side Effects
The most common side effects of Cyclogyl may include burning or stinging of the eye, eye irritation, puffy eyelids, and temporary blurred vision. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Confusion;
• Fast heartbeats;
• Little or no urinating;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Tunnel vision
Cyclogyl Precautions
Do not use Cyclogyl if you are allergic to Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have Angle-closure glaucoma, Brain damage (in children), Down’s syndrome, Heart disease, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cyclogyl and other medications, such as phenylephrine, donepezil, other ophthalmic medicines, etc. Do not use Cyclogyl if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if Cyclogyl will harm a fetus. Do not use Cyclogyl while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor. Infants and young children are more likely to have side effects from Cyclogyl. Monitor your child for at least 30 minutes after administering the medicine to see if there are any reactions.
Use this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Cyclogyl is often administered 40 to 50 minutes before an eye examination. Your doctor will place the eyedrops into your eyes. After you receive the drops, close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down without blinking or squinting. Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct. If your infant receives this medicine, wait at least 4 hours before feeding the child. Cyclogyl can cause feeding problems in infants. Cyclogyl can cause blurred vision for up to 24 hours after using it. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to see clearly. Cyclogyl may also increase the sensitivity of your eyes to light. Until the effects wear off, protect your eyes from the sun or bright light. You can wear dark sunglasses when outdoors. Store this medication at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep it out of the reach of children.
