Dapsone Information:

Dapsone (Generic name: Dapsone) is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of skin disorder such as dermatitis herpetiformis. Dapsone is also an anti-leprosy drug for the treatment of leprosy, known as Hansen’s disease. Dapsone belongs to a class of drugs called sulfones. It works by decreasing inflammation and preventing the bacterial growth. However, Daspone wil not work for viral infections such as common cold or flu. Use Dapsone exactly as it was prescribed for you.

A new dapsone gel is available used to treat acne.

Dapsone Side Effects

The most common Dapsone side effects are bluish lips/skin, blurred vision, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects including chest pain, chill, difficult urination, fast heartbeat, fever, jaundice, mood/mental changes, muscle weakness, or a sign of serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Dapsone Precautions

Do NOT use Dapsone if you are allergic to Dapsone or any other ingredients in Dapsone medication. Before using Dapsone, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, such as blood disorders, heart disease, high blood sugar levels, kidney or liver disease, lung disease, or serious infection. Tell your doctor about all the prescription drugs you are taking, especially of: folic acid antagonists (such as pyrimethamine), nitrofurantoin, primaquine, and etc. They may interact with Dapsone drug.
