Dermatop Information

Dermatop (Prenicarbate) is a prescription topical medication used to treat skin inflammation and itching associated with skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids in adults and pediatric patients 1 year or older. The active substance in Dermatop is Prenicarbate. Mild potent corticosteroids such as Prenicarbate work by suppressing immune system activity. You should know that it may take some time before you notice the effect of this emollient cream.

Dermatop Side Effects

The most common side effects of Dermatop may include mild skin atrophy (thinning and wrinkling of skin), itchiness, swelling, burning, and rash. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Allergic contact dermatitis;
• Hypopigmentation;
• Severe skin irritation and itching;
• Skin bruising or peeling;
• Striae (stretch marks)

Dermatop Precautions

Before using Dermatop, inform your doctor if you are allergic to or have a sensitive skin reaction to steroid-containing cream. Dermatop is an emollient cream that should be applied topically to the affected area, usually twice daily. Follow your prescription label carefully, and do not use more than the required dosage. Clean the affected area before applying the cream. Apply a thin film of Dermatop Emollient Cream to the affected skin areas and rub gently. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage. Do not let this product come in contact with your eyes. Cortisone products can thin the skin and increase the risk of skin infections. Do not use it for longer than necessary.

Discuss with your doctor if there is no improvement in your symptoms after two weeks of usage. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including a history of skin allergy, infected or open wounds on the skin, high blood sugar, adrenal suppression, liver problems, kidney disease, and itchy skin; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Dermatop should be used only when pregnant women need it. It is unknown if Dermatop passes into breast milk. Discuss this with your doctor before using it as a nursing mother. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Dermatop and other medications, such as steroid cream or other similar skincare products. Store Dermatop tube cream at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
