Duvoid Information
Duvoid (Bethanechol) is used to treat certain bladder problems like the inability to urinate. Urinary retention is when you cannot empty all the urine from your bladder. This condition can be acute or chronic. The drug is used to empty the bladder completely after a surgery or when there is a problem with the bladder muscles. Parasympathomimetics like Duvoid stimulate the bladder muscles that are responsible for causing urination. It helps the bladder muscles squeeze better and improves your ability to urinate.
Duvoid Side Effects
The most common side effects of Duvoid may include dizziness; abdominal cramps; diarrhea; nausea; increased saliva production; sweating; headache; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Fainting;
• Fast heartbeat;
• Severe abdominal pain
Duvoid Precautions
Do not use Duvoid if you are allergic to Duvoid or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have had a recent bladder or stomach surgery; have stomach problems; have hyperthyroidism; have blood pressure problems; have lung disease; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Duvoid and other medications, like atropine; donepezil; quinidine; atenolol; Do not use Duvoid if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. The drug should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Do not use Duvoid while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is not known if Duvoid passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take this drug by mouth on an empty stomach, one hour before or 2 hours after meals. Taking the drug on an empty stomach will help reduce nausea and vomiting. Use this drug at the same time each day to help you remember. Duvoid can cause dizziness. Get up slowly from a sitting or lying position to reduce your risk of dizziness. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires alertness until you can do it safely. Avoid taking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can make you feel dizzier. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
