Eucreas Information

Eucreas (Vildagliptin/Metformin) is a prescription medication used in combination with diet and exercise to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. This medication is used in patients whose blood glucose is not under control with taking Metformin alone, or in patients or who are already taking Vildagliptin and Metformin separately, or together with diabetes medicines, including insulin, when these medicines are not able to provide adequate control of the blood glucose. Vildagliptin belongs to the class of medications called dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors (DPP-IV) inhibitors or incretin enhancers and works by increasing the amount of insulin produced by your body and reducing the amount of substance called glucagon being produced by your pancreas. Metformin belongs to the class of medications called biguanides and it works by reducing the amount of sugar your liver releases into your blood. Metformin also makes your body respond well to insulin.

Eucreas Side Effects

The most common side effect of Eucreas may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as: • Decreased absorption of vitamin B-12 during long-term use; • Elevated levels of lactic acid in the blood; • Hepatitis or inflammation of the liver; • Inflammation of the nose and throat; • Skin reactions such as itching or redness; • Upper respiratory tract infection

Eucreas Precautions

Do not use Eucreas tablets if you are allergic to Vildagliptin or Metformin or to any other ingredients in this medication. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Eucreas and other medications. Do not drink alcohol while taking Eucreas because alcohol can increase your risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia. Your kidneys and your liver should be monitored regularly while you are taking this medication. Do not breastfeed while taking Eucreas. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant.
