Evista Information
Evista (Generic name: Raloxifene Hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or who are at risk of invasive breast cancer. Raloxifene Hydrochloride is different from hormones; it works by acting like estrogen in some parts of the body. Raloxifene helps to preserve bone mass, but it does not affect the breast and uterus like estrogen or relieve symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. Take Evista exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Evista Side Effects
The most common Evista side effects are depression, hot flashes, insomnia, joint or muscle pain, stomach or intestines problems, sweating, and weight changes. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as breast tenderness, chest pain, confusion, difficult urination, fever, infection, numbness, vaginal bleeding, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, hives, difficult breathing, swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.
Evista Precautions
Do NOT take Evista oral if you are allergic to Raloxifene or any of the ingredients in Evista medication. Evista is NOT recommended for use in women before menopause. Before taking Evista, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as blood clots, heart disease, high blood cholesterol levels, high triglycerides, stroke, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may interact with Evista drug, especially of: cholestyramine, diazepam, diazoxide, estrogens, lidocaine, and warfarin.
