Farxiga Information
Farxiga (Generic name: Dapagliflozin) is a new diabetes medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Farxiga contains the active substance Dapagliflozin. It belongs to a class of medications called SGLT2 inhibitors; it works by removing excess sugar from your body via your urine. Farxiga is manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb (in partnership with AstraZeneca) in the UK. Farxiga is also branded as Forxiga by AstraZeneca in the UK. It is available in 5 mg and 10 mg tablet. Take Forxiga exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Farxiga Side Effects
The most common Farxiga side effects are back pain, diarrhea, hypoglycemia, low blood sugar levels, nausea, urinary tract infections, changes of amount of cholesterol or fats in your blood, sore throat, etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as dehydration, genital infections, or serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, rash, swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Farxiga Precautions
Do not take Forxiga if you:
• Are allergic to Dapagliflozin or any of other ingredients in this medication
• Are pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Have type 1 diabetes
Before taking Farxiga, tell your doctor if you have had any medical history such as frequent genital infections, heart disease, high percentage of red blood cells in the blood (high haematocrit), urinary tract infections, if you are taking medicines for high blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Forxiga drug. Especially: diuretic and other anti-diabetics medications. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
