Fluanxol Information
Fluanxol (Flupentixol) is used to treat schizophrenia long-term. Schizophrenia is a mental illness present with emotional reactions, disturbances in thinking, hallucinations, and disorganized thinking. Thioxanthenes or neuroleptics like Flupentixol work by affecting the balance of natural substances, also known as neurotransmitters, in the brain. This helps you to think more clearly, function in everyday life, and reduce hallucinations and negative thoughts.
Fluanxol Side Effects
The most common side effects of Fluanxol may include dizziness; fatigue; decreased sexual ability; increased saliva production; dry mouth; constipation; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Blurred vision;
• Difficult urination;
• New or worsening constipation;
• Skin rash;
• Stiffness in arms and legs
Fluanxol Precautions
Do not use Fluanxol if you are allergic to Flupentixol or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have brain damage; have liver damage; have serious heart disease; have kidney disease; have breathing problems; have a tumor on your adrenal gland; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Fluanxol and other medications, like clonidine; loratadine; clozapine; fluconazole; phenobarbital; lithium;. Do not use Fluanxol if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. Using this drug in your last trimester may cause withdrawal symptoms in your newborn baby. Do not use Fluanxol while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Flupentixol passes into your breastmilk and it may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take the tablet by mouth. You can take this drug with food or on an empty stomach. However, taking the drug with food or milk can reduce stomach upset. Your doctor will administer a Fluanxol injection. Do not stop taking this medication without talking to your doctor. Fluanxol is not a cure for schizophrenia. You must take this drug every day for it to be effective. You may also experience withdrawal symptoms if you stop the drug suddenly. If you plan on stopping Fluanxol, your doctor will reduce your dose gradually to reduce the severity of the withdrawal effects. This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drive or perform activities that require alertness while using this drug. Store this medication at room temperature below 250C. Do not take Fluanxol ampoules out of the box till you are ready to use them.
