Ganfort Eye Drops Information
Ganfort Eye Drops (Timolol Maleate/Bimatoprost) is used to treat open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension in adults who do not respond sufficiently to other medicines used for these conditions. Ocular hypertension is when the pressure in the eye is higher than normal. In open-angle glaucoma, the high pressure is caused by fluid being unable to drain out of the eye. Ganfort Eye Drops is a combination of two medicines - Timolol Maleate and Bimatoprost. Beta-blockers like Timolol Maleate work by decreasing pressure in the eye. Prostaglandin analogs like Bimatoprost increase fluid drainage out of the eye to reduce eye pressure.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ganfort Eye Drops comes as an eye drop. Use one drop in the affected eye in the mornings. Do not take this drug by mouth. Use this drug at the same time every day to help you remember. You may find it easier to instill this medication while sitting or lying down. Wash your hands before applying the medication. Hold the bottle upside down in one hand. Using your other hand, pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket. Tilt your head back and look up. Put the tip of the bottle close to your lower eyelid. Do not let it touch your eye. Release one drop into the pouch or pocket between your eye and eyelid. Close your eyes. Do not blink or rub the eye. Place your index finger against the inside corner of your eye and press against the nose for about two minutes. This will stop the medicine from draining through the tear duct to the nose and throat. Do not touch the dropper tip against your eye or eyelid to prevent contamination. Wash your hands with soap to remove any residue. Wait at least 5 minutes after using Ganfort before using other eye medications. If you are using an eye ointment, instill the ointment last. If you use contact lenses, remove them before applying Ganfort. You can put the soft contact lenses back into your eyes 15 minutes after using the eye drops. Your vision may be blurred after using Ganfort. Wait until your vision clears before driving or using machinery. Store Ganfort Eye Drops at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
