Hepsera Information
Hepsera (Adefovir Dipvoxil) is used to treat chronic Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver. Hepsera does not cure hepatitis B or prevent the spreading of the disease to others. Nucleotide analogs like Adefovir Dipvoxil work by slowing the growth of the virus to lower the amount of the virus in your body.
Hepsera Side Effects
The most common side effects of Hepsera may include weakness, headache, nausea, cough, and diarrhea. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of lactic acidosis, such as unusual muscle pain, breathing difficulties, stomach pain, or irregular heart rate;
• Signs of liver problems, such as appetite loss, dark urine, nausea, and stomach pain in the upper right side
Hepsera Precautions
Do not use Hepsera if you are allergic to Adefovir Dipvoxil or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have kidney disease, liver problems, untreated HIV or AIDS, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Hepsera and other medications, such as cidofovir, tenofovir, telbivudine, erythromycin, buspirone, donepezil, amoxicillin, etc. Do not use Hepsera if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Adefovir Dipvoxil will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Hepsera while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Adefovir Dipvoxil passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 12 years without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Hepsera comes in tablets. Take this medication by mouth with or without food, as directed by your doctor.
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Do not increase or decrease your dose or stop taking this medication unless directed by your doctor. Stopping this drug suddenly may worsen your hepatitis. When you are instructed to stop taking this medication, your doctor will monitor you closely for signs of worsening hepatitis. Hepsera is not a cure for hepatitis B, and it will not prevent the disease from spreading. Do not have unprotected sex or share razors or toothbrushes. Talk with your doctor about safe ways to prevent transmission during sex. Store Hepsera at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medications away from children.
