Ibsrela Information

Ibsrela (Tenapanor Hydrochloride) is a medication used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) is a condition in which the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract is impaired with no structural abnormalities that can be found with an endoscope (a flexible viewing tube). Affected people usually complain of cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, or constipation. Sodium/hydrogen ion exchanger 3 (NHE3) inhibitors like Ibsrela decrease the amount of sodium the bowels absorb, increasing the amount of fluid in the bowels. This action causes the stool to be softer, so the material in the intestines and colon can pass through the digestive system more quickly, thereby increasing the number of bowel movements and helping to ease stomach pain. It is unknown if Ibsrela is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age.

Ibsrela Side Effects

The most common side effects of Ibsrela may include diarrhea; swelling, a feeling of fullness in your abdomen (distension), gas (flatulence), or dizziness. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
