Indocin (Indomethacin) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve swelling, pain and joint stiffness caused by gout, arthritis, bursitis or tendonitis. It may also be used to treat
ankylosing spondylitis and to relieve pain from various other conditions. This medication is to be taken with food or with antacids to prevent upsetting your stomach. Do not use more than 200 milligrams of Indocin per day. To lessen side effect risks such as stomach bleeding, use this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible length of time. This medication may take up to 4 weeks to notice the full benefits from when this drug is taken.
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to this medication or to aspirin or any other NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, naproxen or celecoxib, or if you have any other allergies. Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of asthma, bleeding or clotting problems, growths in the nose, heart disease, high blood pressure or liver disease. Some side effects that can occur from this medication include an upset stomach, heartburn, headache, drowsiness or dizziness. Inform your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects.
