Isentress Information
Isentress (Generic name: Raltegravir) is an oral anti-HIV medicine used for the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) in adult patients. Raltegravir is an approved FIRST HIV integrase inhibitor drug. It works by blocking an enzyme that the virus needs in order to make more virus. Isentress is used in combination with other anti-HIV medicines. It is approved for use both as part of a first combination as well as for treatment-experienced patients. Take Isentress exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Isentress Side Effects
The most common Isentress side effects are diarrhea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, tiredness, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as easy bruising or bleeding, depression, jaundice, muscle weakness, signs of a new infection, tenderness, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Isentress Precautions
Do NOT take Isentress oral if you are allergic to Raltegravir or any of the ingredients in Isentress medication. Do NOT take Isentress HIV if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Before taking Isentress, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as any allergies, depression or mental illness, muscle disorder, liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may interact with Isentress drug, especially of: cholesterol drugs, phenobarbital, rifampin, and other HIV medications. Isentress does NOT cure HIV or AIDS infection. It does NOT prevent the spread of HIV to others through sex, or sharing used needles, razors, and toothbrushes.
