Ludiomil Information
Ludiomil (Maprotiline) is used to treat bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. Bipolar disorder is a manic depressive disorder that causes episodes of depression, mania, and other abnormal moods. The active ingredient in Ludiomil is Maprotiline. Tetracyclic antidepressants like Maprotiline work by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance.
Ludiomil Side Effects
The most common side effects of Ludiomil may include appetite changes, blurred vision, drowsiness, dry mouth, frequent urination, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, such as:
• Hallucinations;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Memory problems;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Speech difficulties
Ludiomil Precautions
Do not use Ludiomil if you are allergic to Maprotiline or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have an enlarged prostate, brain tumor, glaucoma, head injury, hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, liver disease, seizures, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ludiomil and other medications, such as warfarin, fluoxetine, Ritalin, levodopa, lithium, oral contraceptives, sedatives, etc. Tell your doctor if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. Do not use Ludiomil if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if Ludiomil will harm a fetus. Do not use Ludiomil while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Maprotiline passes into breast milk, but it is unknown if it will harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 18 without talking to your doctor. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take this drug by mouth, one to three times a day, with or without food. Take this drug at the same time every day to help you remember. It may take a few weeks for you to feel the full benefit of the drug. Ludiomil can make you dizzy. Do not stand up too fast from a sitting or lying position to reduce your risk of dizziness. Avoid driving or using machinery until you can do it safely. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol may make you more dizzy. Store this medication at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children.
