Maxalt (Generic name: Rizatriptan Benzoate) is an approved medication to treat acute migraine attacks, with or without aura (warning signs that occur prior to the onset of a migraine) in adults. Rizatriptan Benzoate is a 5-hydroxytryptamine agonist (triptan). It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain, which helps to relieve migraine symptoms including headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound. Maxalt is NOT recommended for other types of headache or for headache prevention. Take Maxalt exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Maxalt Side Effects:
The most common Maxalt side effects are dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, insomnia, pain or pressure sensation, tiredness, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, fainting, fever, mental or mood changes, numbness, unusual tiredness, vision changes, and symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.
Maxalt Precautions:
Do NOT take Maxalt oral if you are allergic to Rizatriptan Benzoate or any of the ingredients in Maxalt medication. Before taking Maxalt, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as angina, blood circulation disorder, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver or kidney problems, seizures, types of migraine headaches.
