Mederma Information

Mederma is used to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, and itchy skin. Anyone can suffer from dry and rough skin. However, sun damage, overbathing, and cold weather can contribute to skin dryness. Mederma is also used to treat minor skin irritations, or skin burns from radiation irritation. Emollients like Mederma work like moisturizers. The drug softens and moisturizes the skin to reduce itching and flaking.

Mederma Side Effects

The most common side effects of Mederma may include burning; stinging; redness.

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Hives;
• Severe dizziness;
• Unusual skin changes

Mederma Precautions

Do not use Mederma if you are allergic to Mederma or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have skin cuts, infections, or sores, especially in the area to be treated; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Mederma and other medications. Do not use Mederma if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. The drug should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Do not use Mederma while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is not known if Mederma passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children below two years of age. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Use this drug topically on your skin. Do not take it by mouth. Avoid contact with the ears, eyes, and nose. If this drug gets in your eyes, rinse with cool water. Always wash your hands before and after applying the medication. Wash and dry the affected area before you apply Mederma. Apply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area and rub it in gently. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
