Merrem (Meropenem) Information
Merrem IV, also known as Meropenem, is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections. This medication is used to treat skin and abdominal infections caused by bacteria and meningitis in adults and children of three months of age and older. Merrem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. This antibiotic works by terminating the growth of bacteria, by penetrating bacteria cells and interfering with the synthesis of vital cell wall parts, which leads to cell death. Merrem is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is injected into a vein as your doctor advises, usually every 8 hours. If Merrem is being used at home, you should be informed of all instructions and preparations by your doctor or health care professional. Prior to each use, examine the product to ensure there are no particles or discoloration visible. If either is visible, do not use the product. Take this medication at evenly spaced times for best treatment.
Symptoms may disappear after a few days, but to be sure that the infection is gone use the medication for the completed amount of time prescribed. Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or to other carbapenems such as imipenem or to penicillins and cephalosporins. Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of brain disorders, kidney disease, stomach diseases. Some side effects that may occur while using this medication are nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea.
