Micardis Information
Micardis (Generic name: Telmisartan) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Micardis is also used to treat congestive heart failure and to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. Telmisartan belongs to a class of drugs called Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers. It works by blocking the hormone angiotensin thereby relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Micardis Side Effects
The most common Micardis side effects are back pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, flu symptoms, headache, heartburn, insomnia, joint pain, skin rash, and upper respiratory tract infection. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, decreased sexual ability, fainting, irregular heartbeat, vision changes, or signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; itching; rash; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), please inform your doctor immediately.
Micardis Precautions
Do NOT take Micardis oral if you are allergic to Telmisartan or to ACE inhibitors, or any other allergies. Before taking Micardis, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as heart problem, high blood levels of potassium, kidney or liver disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Micardis drug, especially of: digoxin, diuretics (water pills), lithium, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, and other blood pressure medications.
