Micardis HCT (Generic name: Telmisartan Hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Micardis HCT is a combination of two medications: Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Telmisartan belongs to a class of drugs called Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers. It works by blocking the hormone angiotensin thereby relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a family of medications known as diuretics or "water pills" and helps control blood pressure by removing excess salt and water. Micardis HCT Side Effects
The most common Micardis HCT side effects are back pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, insomnia, joint pain, sinus inflammation, and upper respiratory infection. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, decreased sexual ability, easy bruising or bleeding, fainting, irregular heartbeat, jaundice, muscle weakness, unusual tiredness, vision changes, or signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; itching; rash; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), please inform your doctor immediately.
Micardis HCT Precaution
Do NOT take Micardis HCT oral if you are allergic to Telmisartan or Hydrochlorothiazide; or to ACE inhibitors, or any other allergies. Before taking Micardis HCT, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as asthma, gout, heart failure, high cholesterol, kidney or liver disease, lupus, mineral/electrolyte problems. They may interact with Micardis HCT drug, especially of: barbiturates, cholestyramine, colestipol, digoxin, diuretics (water pills), insulin or oral diabetes drugs, lithium, muscle relaxants, narcotic, NSAIDs, steroids, and other blood pressure medications. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
