Micronor Information

Micronor (Norethindrone) is used to prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg successfully travels down the fallopian tube and implants in the uterus. Micronor is referred to as the mini pill because it does not contain estrogen. The active ingredient in Micronor is Norethindrone. Progestins like Norethindrone prevent pregnancy by stopping the lining of the uterus from growing, making it difficult for an egg to implant.

Micronor Side Effects

The most common side effects of Micronor may include nausea, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, spotting, and vomiting. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Breast lumps;

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Unusual changes in vaginal bleeding

If you have stomach upset or nausea after using this drug, taking it after your evening meal or at bedtime may help. Begin this drug on the first day of your menstrual period. If you begin taking it on any other day, use a backup form of non-hormonal birth control for the first 48 hours. Your periods may be irregular when taking Micronor. Do not stop taking the drug if this happens. If you have diarrhea or vomit soon after taking a pill, use a backup method of birth control every time you have sex for the next 48 hours. If you miss two periods in a row or one period if you do not use the pill properly, contact your doctor for a pregnancy test. Although Norethindrone is more effective than other methods of birth control, such as condoms and cervical caps, it is not as effective as combination hormone birth control.
