Minims Atropine Information

Minims Atropine (Atropine Sulphate) is used to dilate the pupils and relax the muscles. Dilating and relaxing pupils makes eye examinations and vision testing easier. Antimuscarinic agents like Atropine Sulphate block acetylcholine to relax the eye’s ciliary muscle and cause the pupil to dilate.

Minims Atropine Side Effects

The most common side effects of Minims Atropine may include red eyes, itching, increased body temperature, and flushing of the surrounding skin. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Fast heartbeat;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Minims Atropine Precautions

Do not use Minims Atropine if you are allergic to Atropine Sulphate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have closed-angle glaucoma, down’s syndrome, keratoconus, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Minims Atropine and other medications, such as potassium citrate, antihistamines, other eye medications, medicines used to treat glaucoma, depression, Parkinson’s disease, muscle weakness, etc. Do not use Minims Atropine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Atropine Sulphate will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Minims Atropine while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Atropine Sulphate passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Minims Atropine is an eye drop. Use this medication in your eyes only. Do not take it by mouth. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Minims Atropine. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the drug before putting back the contact lenses. Wash your hands before applying the eye drops. Carefully dry your eye with a tissue and pull your lower eyelid down to create a pocket for the drops. Carefully instill a drop in your lower eyelid and close it. Press the inner corner of your eyelid for three minutes to prevent the solution from draining. Minims Atropine may make your vision blurry after application. Wait until your vision clears before driving or using machines. Store Minims Atropine at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
