Mona Lisa IUD Information

Mona Lisa IUD (Intrauterine Device with Copper) is used to prevent pregnancy. This medicine is a device inserted in your uterus for birth control. Reversible contraception, like the Intrauterine device with copper, prevents pregnancy by causing an immune response in the uterus that makes it difficult for the sperm to reach the fallopian tubes and fertilize an egg. The device may also make it difficult for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. Mona Lisa IUD Side Effects

The most common side effects of Mona Lisa IUD may include backache, cramps, heavy periods, and spotting. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:

• Perforation of the uterus;
• Severe abdominal cramps;
• Unusual vaginal discharge

Mona Lisa IUD Precautions

Do not use Mona Lisa IUD if you are allergic to the Intrauterine Device with Copper or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have A bleeding disorder, Copper allergy, Large fibroids, Lupus, Wilson’s disease, Cancer (especially of the uterus or cervix), Conditions that may weaken your immune system (such as HIV or leukemia), An abnormally shaped uterus, Pelvic infection, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Mona Lisa IUD and other medications. Do not use the Mona Lisa IUD if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. The medication is used to prevent pregnancy. Having the Intrauterine device with copper in place when pregnant may cause a miscarriage, preterm birth, or increase the risk of an infection at delivery. Your doctor will delay inserting the IUD for at least six weeks after delivery or 12 weeks after a cesarean section. Do not use the Mona Lisa IUD while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if the copper in the Intrauterine Device passes into breastmilk or if it may harm a nursing infant. This medication is not safe for use in children.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will insert this device into your uterus. Before inserting the device, your doctor will rinse your vagina, cervix, and cervical canal with an antiseptic solution. The insertion will be during the last few days of your period or immediately after. You may experience changes in your subsequent three cycles after the insertion of the Mona Lisa IUD. These changes should disappear within 2 to 3 months. However, if the changes persist, inform your doctor. The Mona Lisa IUD (N) can only prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years. Discuss with your doctor to know the best one for you. This medication does not affect your ovulation. Your doctor can remove it at any time if you decide you want to have children. Mona Lisa IUD is only a form of contraception. It will not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. Store this medication at room temperature in its original packaging. Keep it out of the reach of children.
