Nexium Information

Nexium (Generic name: Esomeprazole Magnesium) is an approved anti-ulcer medication used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (*GERD – reflux esophagitis) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Nexium is also approved for the maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis (*damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid). Nexium is also used in combination with two antibiotics, amoxicillin and clarithromycin, to treat helicobacter pylori (*H. pylori – a spiral shaped bacterium found in the stomach) infection, which is responsible for the majority of gastric ulcers (*stomach ulcers) and duodenal ulcers (*an ulcer in the lining of the first part of the small intestine - duodenum). Nexium (Esomeprazole) is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
