One-Alpha Information
One-Alpha (Alfacalcidol) is used to treat diseases where the amount of calcium in the body needs changing. The body needs calcium for healthy bones and teeth. One-Alpha is used to treat osteodystrophy, a condition that changes the bone due to kidney failure. The drug also treats changes to the parathyroid glands, hypocalcemia in newborn babies, and rickets. Hypocalcemia is when the body has low calcium levels, and rickets occur when the bones soften or deform due to calcium deficiency. Vitamin D analogs like Alfacalcidol work by increasing the amount of vitamin D in your body. This then increases calcium and phosphate levels in the body.
