Osphena Information
Osphena (Ospemifene) is used to treat moderate to severe painful intercourse and moderate to severe vaginal dryness in menopausal women. Painful intercourse and vaginal dryness are symptoms of changes in and around your vagina due to menopause and because of decreased estrogen levels. During menopause, the estrogen level drops drastically in women, which causes dryness and irritation of the vaginal walls. Selective estrogen receptor modifiers (SERMs) like Osphena works by acting like estrogen in some parts of the body. By this mechanism of action, Osphena moistens the vaginal area, relieves vaginal dryness, and help have sex less painful.
Osphena Side Effects
The most common side effects of Osphena may include hot flushes; excessive sweating; vaginal discharge; itching around the vaginal; muscle spasms; rash; and angioedema. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Bleeding per vaginum or postcoital bleeding;
• Excessive dryness;
• Foul smelling discharge through the vaginal;
• Generalized body rash;
• Worsening of your condition

Do not miss your clinic appointment because your doctor will check your progress regularly to determine whether you should continue this treatment. You should examine your breasts for lumps monthly and have regular pelvic exams and mammograms while taking Osphena tablet. If you missed a dose, take it immediately and continue with the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are unsure what to do after missing a dose. Contact your doctor if you think there is no improvement in your condition for proper assessment or alternative medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, Osphena should not be used. It may harm an unborn baby. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
