Pen VK Information

Pen VK (Penicillin) is an antibiotic used to treat and prevent wide variety of infections that are caused by certain bacteria. Pen-VK is an antibacterial drug and treats only bacterial infections. They do not treat viral infections. Pen-VK works to stop growth of bacteria, kill the bacteria, and reduce the infection in your body. Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.

Pen VK Side Effects

The most common side effects of Pen VK may include nausea; vomiting; heartburn, bloating, and gas; diarrhea; mouth sores. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as: • A severe form of diarrhea called C diff–associated diarrhea (stomach pain, cramps, or very loose, watery, or bloody stools); • Black hairy tongue; • Blood Problems (anemia, increase or decrease in some white blood cells, low blood platelet count, fever); • Kidney problems; • Nervous system problems (numbness or weakness of the arms and legs); • Severe Allergic Reaction (sudden signs of allergy such as rash, itching or hives on the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble breathing) • Unusual tiredness, joint/muscle pain, easy bruising/bleeding.

Pen VK Precautions

Do not use Pen VK if you are allergic to penicillin, other antibiotics or to any other ingredients in this medication. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history including allergies; asthma; severe illness with symptoms of nausea, vomiting or stomach or gut issues; kidney problems; pregnant, or trying to become pregnant; breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Pen VK and other medications. Although you may feel better early in treatment, use Pen-VK exactly as directed. Misuse or overuse of Pen-VK could lead to the growth of bacteria that will not be killed by Pen-VK (resistance). This means that Pen-VK may not work for you in the future.
