Pletal Information
Pletal (Cilostazol) is a prescription medication used to reduce the symptoms of intermittent claudication (such as leg pain, numbness, and tingling sensation). It can increase patients’ ability to walk further distances. It increases the blood and oxygen flow to the muscle, reducing pain. The active ingredient in Pletal is Cilostazol. Cilostazol is an antiplatelet drug and a vasodilator. Cilostazol is a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor (PDE-3 inhibitor) that stops platelets from sticking together and prevents them from forming harmful clots. It also widens blood vessels in the legs. Cilostazol helps the blood to move more quickly and keeps blood flowing smoothly in your body.
Pletal Side Effects
The most common side effects of Pletal may include abnormal stool, headache, diarrhea, runny nose, and dizziness.
Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Easy bruising, unusual bleeding, purple or red spots under your skin;
• Severe dizziness;
• Sudden chest pain or pounding heartbeat;
• Trouble breathing;
• Weakness on one side of the body, with trouble speaking
Pletal Precautions
Before taking Cilostazol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Pletal is a tablet that should be taken by mouth. It is usually taken twice daily, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after breakfast and dinner. You should limit alcoholic beverages when taking Cilostazol. Talk to your doctor if you smoke cigarettes or marijuana (cannabis), as this may worsen your condition. To lower the chance of getting cut, bruised, or injured, use caution with sharp objects like razors and nail cutters, and avoid activities such as contact sports. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Discuss with your doctor if you notice abnormal color in your feces or urine. Do not miss your clinic visit. Your doctor may request a regular blood investigation to check your blood cell counts while you take Pletal. It may take up to 12 weeks before your symptoms improve, and you should tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after three months of treatment. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history; if you have chronic liver disease, kidney disease, chronic smoking, bleeding problems (such as hemophilia, low platelet counts), or a recent heart attack or stroke. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Pletal and other medications such as abrocitinib, warfarin, dipyridamole, and heparin. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
