Proamatine Information
Proamatine (Midodrine) is used to treat orthostatic hypotension. Orthostatic hypotension is a medical condition that causes a sudden drop in blood pressure when you stand up from a sitting or lying position. This condition occurs when the blood vessels don’t constrict properly as the body moves upright. The active ingredient in Proamatine is Midodrine. Alpha-adrenergic agonists like Midodrine work by causing blood vessels to tighten, increasing blood pressure.
Proamatine Side Effects
The most common side effects of Proamatine may include stomach pain, urination problems, rash, itchy scalp, and numbness. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Anxiety;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of supine hypertension, such as pounding heartbeat, blurred vision, and headache;
• Slow heartbeat;
• Unusual feeling in the chest
Proamatine Precautions
Do not use Proamatine if you are allergic to Midodrine or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have Difficulty urinating, Hyperthyroidism, Kidney disease, Heart disease, Pheochromocytoma, Diabetes, Liver disease, High blood pressure, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Proamatine and other medications, such as doxazosin, acebutolol, fludrocortisone, ibuprofen, etc.
Do not use Proamatine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. You should not become pregnant while using this drug. Midodrine may harm an unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy when using this drug. Do not use Proamatine while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Midodrine passes into breast milk. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication by mouth, with or without food, three times daily. You should leave at least 3 to 4 hours between doses. Take this drug during the day, when people stand most often. Avoid using this drug after your dinner or less than 4 hours before bedtime. It is not ideal to take your dose if you plan to lie down for a long time afterward. Use this drug regularly to get the most benefit out of it. Take it at the same time each day to help you remember. Store this medication in its original container at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children.
