Protonix (Generic name: Pantoprazole Sodium) is a prescription medication that is used to treat acid-related stomach and throat (esophagus) problems such as acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Pantoprazole Sodium is known as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
