Generic Equivalent of Risperdal Solution
Risperdal Solution Information
Risperdal Solution (Risperidone Oral Solution) is a prescription medication used to improve mood, thought, and behaviour disorders in people with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder. It is also effective for the treatment and long-term control of mania in bipolar disorder. These episodes are characterized by elevated, expansive, or irritable mood, inflated self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts, distractibility, poor judgment, and disruptive or aggressive behaviours. The active ingredient in Risperdal Solution is Risperidone. Atypical antipsychotics such as Risperidone work by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. It would be best to know that the Risperdal solution is not approved for the treatment of dementia-related behavior problems.

Risperdal Solution Precautions
Before taking Risperidone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, paliperidone, or any other allergies. Risperidone comes as an oral solution (liquid) and should be taken by mouth. Take Risperidone at around the same time(s) every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Risperidone exactly as directed, usually once or twice daily, depending on the severity of your condition. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes. If you already have diabetes, check your blood sugar regularly as directed and discuss the result with your doctor. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while taking Risperdal solution, as this may worsen your condition. Do not stop taking this medication unless directed by your doctor. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including a history of seizure disorder, diabetes mellitus, difficulty with swallowing, liver problems, kidney disease, Parkinson's disease, dementia, certain eye problems (cataracts, glaucoma), high cholesterol/triglyceride levels.
Discuss with your doctor if you think you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. During pregnancy, antipsychotics such as Risperdal solution should be used only when needed. Babies born to mothers who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may develop symptoms including muscle stiffness or shakiness, drowsiness, feeding/breathing difficulties, or constant crying. Risperidone passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Tell the doctor immediately if your baby develops symptoms such as muscle stiffness or shakiness, unusual sleepiness, or difficulty feeding. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Risperdal Solution and other medications, such as amisulpride, codeine, hydrocodone, alcohol, marijuana, lorazepam, muscle relaxants (such as carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine), and antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine).
