Sintrom Information

Sintrom (Acenocoumarol) belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants (blood thinning medicines). Sintrom is used to treat and prevent blood clots that are blocking the blood vessels e.g., deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Sintrom does not dissolve blood clots that have already formed but it may stop the clots from becoming larger and causing more serious problems. It is also used to treat atrial fibrillation (an abnormal heart rhythm) that is associated with blood clots, and to treat and prevent blood clots in the lungs. It is used along with other medications to treat blood clots in the heart and transient mini strokes. Acenocoumarol works by partially blocking the reuse of vitamin K in your liver which is needed to make clotting factors that help the blood to clot and prevent bleeding.
