Skelid Information
Skelid (Tiludronate) is used to treat Paget’s disease of the bone. This disease interferes with the body’s normal recycling process, where new bone tissue gradually replaces old bone tissue and leads to a decrease in bone mass. It is a chronic disorder that causes the bones to grow larger and become weaker than normal. Bisphosphonates like Tiludronate help make the bones stronger.
Skelid Side Effects
The most common side effects of Skelid may include nausea; upset stomach; mild diarrhea; runny nose; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Bone fracture;
• Red, blistering skin rash;
• Severe diarrhea;
• Severe joint or bone pain
Skelid Precautions
Do not use Skelid if you are allergic to Tiludronate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have allergies; have anemia; have blood clotting problems; have hypocalcaemia; have an infection; have dental problems; have cancer; are undergoing radiation therapy; have difficulty swallowing; have kidney disease; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Skelid and other medications, like aspirin; sodium bicarbonate; dexone; Mylanta;. Do not use Skelid if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. Do not use Skelid while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Tiludronate passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children. It may harm them. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Take the Skelid tablet by mouth with a full glass of water once a day. Do not take the drug with any other liquid, including mineral water. Taking the drug at the same time each day will help you remember. Do not eat or drink for 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking Skelid. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the drug. Tell your doctor if you are unable to sit or stand for at least 30 minutes after taking the medicine. Skelid can only control Paget’s disease when taken as it is prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor. You should eat and drink foods and drinks rich in calcium and vitamin D when using this drug. Your doctor will let you know the best sources of these nutrients. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
