Sulfacet-R Lotion (Sulfacetamide Sodium/Sulfur 10%-5%) is used to treat skin problems like acne, acne rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis. Sulfa antibiotics like Sodium sulfacetamide work by stopping the growth of certain bacteria on the skin that can lead to acne and worsen these other skin conditions. Keratolytics like Sulfur work by helping remove the top layer of dead skin. It may also help kill acne-causing bacteria and unclog pores.
Sulfacet-R Lotion Side Effects
The most common side effects of Sulfacet-R Lotion may include mild peeling of the top skin layer, skin irritation, redness, and scaling. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Rash on nose or skin;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of an infection, such as fever, persistent sore throat;
• Swollen joints
Sulfacet-R Lotion Precautions
Do not use Sulfacet-R Lotion if you are allergic to Sulfacetamide Sodium/Sulfur 10%-5% or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have cracked or broken skin, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Sulfacet-R Lotion and other medications, such as silver sulfadiazine, other topical medications, etc. Do not use Sulfacet-R Lotion if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Sulfacetamide Sodium/Sulfur 10%-5% will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Sulfacet-R Lotion while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Sulfacetamide Sodium/Sulfur 10%-5% passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not use this drug on children without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Sulfacet-R Lotion comes in lotion. Use on the skin only. Please do not take it by mouth. Clean and dry the affected skin area and your hands before applying this medicine. Shake the container well before each use. Apply a thin layer of the product to the areas of skin with acne, rosacea, or seborrhea as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 3 times daily. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Follow your doctor's directions. Wash your hands with soap and water after each use. Do not apply this product to skin that is cracked, broken, or raw because this may increase your risk of side effects. Avoid getting this medication on your eyelids, lips, eyes, nose, or mouth. If you get medication in these areas, rinse with plenty of water. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not apply large amounts of this medication; use it more often or longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects may increase. Store Sulfacet-R Lotion at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
