Surgam Information

Surgam (Tiaprofenic acid) is a prescription medication used to ease pain, stiffness and reduce inflammation in rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis. Surgam also treats conditions such as sprains and strains, and other muscle and joint injuries which cause immense amounts of pain. Surgam belongs to the class of medication called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Surgam works by inhibiting the effect of chemicals in your body, called cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes. These enzymes help to make other chemicals in the body, called prostaglandins. Some prostaglandins are produced at sites of injury or damage, and cause pain and inflammation. By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, fewer prostaglandins are produced, and pain and inflammation are eased. Reducing the symptoms of arthritis may help improve your ability to live a normal life.

Surgam Side Effects

Common side effects or Surgam include:
• Constipation, diarrhea;
• Heartburn, indigestion;
• Headache, feeling dizzy or sleepy;
• Nausea, vomiting;
• Stomach Pain

Contact your physician immediately if any of these adverse effects occur:
• Blood present in urine;
• Breathing issues like wheezing and breathlessness;
• feel an urgent need to pass urine more regularly than normal or during the night;
• Passing blood or black stools;
• Severe abdominal pains;
• Vomiting blood

Surgam Precautions

Do not take Surgam if you are allergic to it and any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor of any other medications you take including prescription medication, over the counter drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements, to avoid any negative interactions between drugs. Inform your doctor of your previous medical history or if you have:
• Blood clotting problems;
• Connective tissue disorder (systemic lupus erythematosus);
• Existing heart conditions or issues with blood vessels or circulation;
• High blood pressure;
• Inflammatory bowel disorder (Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis);
• Kidney disease or liver disease;
• Prostate gland issues;
• Stomach or duodenal ulcers;
• Urinary tract disorder

This medication can possibly harm an unborn child, consult your doctor if you are or become pregnant. This medication also can pass into breast milk, thus consult your doctor before breastfeeding your child.
